Cabin Hawk
October 30, 2009 by mylesmilhench
Good Day All,
I am in the process of choosing a boat for Strangford Lough in County Down. Strangford is a large very tidal sea lough which can be shallow in places and occasionally treacherous.I am fairly certain I require only the barest minimum of accommodation ,but must have a safe boat that sails well. The cabin would be for somewhere to put the small grandchildren and a very occasional overnight,at least at first. Would someone be kind enough to tell me how much room there is in the cabin - is there sitting headroom for example?
Interestingly I sailed a friends Hawk during our last regatta: I was somewhat surprised when he gave me the helm as I had never sailed one before and it was blowing 25-30 knots and I am not particularly experienced. No problem at all - big boats all over the place making very heavy going of it and it would have been possible for us to have had a cup of tea! There were two very sporty expert young ladies in a high performance racing machine on the same course and we kept up with them easily - without the spinnaker.
Many Thanks,
Myles.
